Shaphan Cox (AA Coach & PhD Geography)

Shaphan is a Level 1 Athletics Australia coach who is passionate about running and helping people develop confidence, dedication and enjoyment by achieving their running goals.

Shaphan works with athletes of all ages and abilities, with specific focus on:

Drawing on his experience as a runner, Shaphan offers a holistic approach to coaching including developing good biomechanics and running economy, gait analysis, endurance training and race psychology. 

Shaphan is a former 5000m and 10,000m state champion and has competed at multiple National Cross-Country championships. As an athlete, Shaphan has had the privilege of being coached by high-level coaches Nick Fragomeni (Victoria) and Ray Boyd (WA distance running legend), who have each imparted a unique perspective and approaches to running on him. 

Shaphan is married and has three children, each of whom have different skill sets and running abilities. Shaphan balances a busy career as a Senior Lecturer in Geography at Curtin University which includes supervising PhD students and a current project researching the relationship between running and place.
